St Giles Cymru’s Colwyn Bay-based social supermarket “Y Pantri,’ (The Pantry,) are delighted to be announced as a finalist in the category of Community-Based Social Enterprise of the Year at this year’s UK Social Enterprise Awards.
Sponsored by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, this award is for a social enterprise that trades for the benefit of their community, making a real local impact.
Peter Holbrook Chief Executive of Social Enterprise UK said:
“Our Awards are the ultimate showcase of social enterprise impact and excellence – so those who made the shortlist represent the future of business, and a beacon of hope in turbulent times.
…Businesses big and small have a vital role to play in solving the problems we face as a society, and the social enterprises celebrated at our Awards give us all inspiration and motivation to do business better.”
Y Pantri / The Pantry is a unique model, offering more than just nutritious, affordable food. On-site staff and volunteers provide expert advice and support; many of whom have experienced the same issues facing the people they support today. For a weekly subscription of £3.50, people using Y Pantri / The Pantry can choose from a range of fresh produce as they would in any other shop whilst receiving support to address the underlying factors trapping them in poverty.
This holistic approach stops their clients from falling through the gaps in services and helps to build foundations to support the whole person and create lasting impact.
Anne-Marie Rogan, Business Development Manager at St Giles Cymru said:
“Last month we were thrilled to win the Community-Based Social Enterprise Award at the Social Business Awards in Cymru, and it is an honour to have our model recognised at the UK wide awards next month, flying the flag for the St Giles Pantry network as a whole. Y Pantri puts lived-experience and social enterprise values together creating true social value to make positive changes within our community. Hopefully this recognition will lead to more Pantry’s across the UK as we strive to support more communities who need us most.”
Y Pantri Cymru is delivered in partnership with CAIS Social Enterprises / Adferiad.
