We are celebrating our Payroll Giving Week 7th – 13th, as February is Payroll Giving Month. This is a chance for charities, companies and employees to make a special effort to raise awareness of payroll giving. Payroll Giving (sometimes known as Give as You Earn) is an easy and tax-efficient way of making regular donations to your favourite charities straight from your pay. Payroll Giving is a very reliable source of income for charities as it allows them to make solid plans for their future. This week, we will be sharing information for both employers and employees on how they can utilise payroll giving to support St Giles Trust.
Payroll Giving for Employees
What is payroll giving?
Payroll Giving is a simple, easy way to support St Giles through a regular donation. With the support of your company, you can set up payroll giving to be deducted from your payroll each month. You can choose how much you would like to donate to us and we receive a tax-free donation directly from your salary!
Why choose payroll giving?
Payroll Giving is the most tax-efficient way to donate to St Giles. Your donation is deducted from your payroll before tax, which means that a ÂŁ10 regular donation to us would only cost you ÂŁ8.
Your Donation | Cost to You (Standard Rate Tax-Payer) | Cost to You (Higher Rate Tax-Payer) |
ÂŁ5 | ÂŁ4 | ÂŁ3 |
ÂŁ10 | ÂŁ8 | ÂŁ6 |
ÂŁ15 | ÂŁ12 | ÂŁ9 |
ÂŁ25 | ÂŁ20 | ÂŁ15 |
How to sign up:
To donate to us through Payroll Giving, check with your employer if they have a Payroll Giving scheme in place. If they don’t, you can email us at fundraising@stgilestrust.org.uk and we will work with you to speak with your employer about getting a scheme set up.
Once you have signed up, make sure to spread the word about Payroll Giving to your colleagues, friends and family. The difference that regular giving makes is huge – it means we can plan for the future, and support even more clients through huge adversities. You could do this by:
- Letting your colleagues, friends and family know that just ÂŁ5 could help us support more people into long-term stability through advice, employment and training.
- Sending them a link to our website, where they can find out more about our work (www.stgilestrust.org.uk)
- Like/share our Payroll Giving social media posts this week using the relevant hashtags #stgilestrust #payrollgiving #payrollgivingmonth and #lovepayrollgiving
If you have any questions at all about payroll giving, please contact the team on fundraising@stgilestrust.org.uk.
Payroll Giving for Employers
Payroll giving is a great way to engage employees and boost your employee benefits package. It’s also an excellent addition to your corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, enabling employees to more easily engage in charity giving.
Payroll giving is easy to set up and run, and there are few costs. We are on hand to make it even easier – just ask our team at fundraising@stgilestrust.org.uk and we will be happy to support your application.
How Payroll Giving works
- Register with a payroll giving agency – they send your employees’ charitable donations to their nominated charities.
- Promote your payroll giving scheme to staff (we can help!).
- Deduct employees’ donations from their salary using your normal payroll software.
- Send the employees’ names and donation amounts to your agency every pay run (normally monthly).
- St Giles and any other nominated charities receive your employees’ donations from your agency.
Already a Payroll Giving Employer?
It would make a huge difference to our work if you could take a moment to actively encourage your employees to sign up for Payroll Giving and support St Giles. The difference that regular giving makes is huge – it means we can plan for the future, and support even more clients through huge adversities. You could do this by:
- Letting your team know that just ÂŁ5 could help us support more people into long-term stability through advice, employment and training.

How your payroll giving will help:
We support people held back by extreme disadvantage. Each year we help thousands of people facing poverty, exploitation, abuse, struggling with mental health problems, caught up in crime, or a combination of these issues, to turn their lives around.
Right now, our work is more important than ever. The economic impact of the cost of living crisis continues to hit poorer families the hardest and the fuel crisis is forcing many households into the impossible choice of heating their homes or feeding their families.
We rely on your support to help deliver our services. Knowing that we will receive a regular gift from you means that we can plan ahead more effectively, to help people who are struggling to turn their lives around.
