New funding builds a new future for our clients

People using our North London Skills and Employment team will now have the opportunity to pursue a career in the construction industry thanks to support from the People’s Postcode Trust.

Working alongside a number of partner agencies and local organisations, we will be helping people to obtain the skills, qualifications and equipment needed to forge a successful career in this industry. Previously, many have been held back by lack of funding for courses and equipment.

Full day workshops will be delivered by an accredited partner outlining safety in the workplace, health and welfare and provide practice questions and a mock test. The real thing can then be booked for each client to take and obtain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme card.

Alongside this, staff will offer help with CV writing, interview skills and employability workshops – being on hand to offer support every step of the way.
Individuals will also be offered the chance to study towards a Traffic Management qualification, which will further bolster their qualifications and employability potential.

Upon receiving their qualification, each client will be provided with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Consisting of a Hi-Visibility jacket, safety helmet, reinforced boots, gloves, safety glasses and trousers, PPE is a requirement on all building sites.

Having supported each client to gain the qualifications, equipment and holistic skills to operate in the industry, the team will utilise their connections to numerous London construction firms to link clients to potential jobs.

“We are extremely grateful to The Postcode Lottery for kindly enabling us to offer this fantastic opportunity for our clients,” said Rob Owen, Chief Executive of St Giles Trust. “Construction has always been a hugely popular area amongst many of the clients we work and this grant will literally give them to building blocks to take steps into it.”
