Meet Laura, one of our recent Peer Advisor graduates in Norfolk. Here she explains her journey with St Giles in her own words.

Laura’s story

Before I came to Wonder Plus, my life was very different. For many years, I was exposed to domestic violence, financial difficulties, and homelessness. Protecting my two young children motivated me to make drastic changes to find a better life.

After receiving counselling and support, I realised that there were others in similar situations and my experiences could help them. I discovered the Peer Advisor Programme and joined the course in October 2021, graduated in June 2022 and shortly afterwards was offered a full position at Wonder Plus as a Peer Advisor.

I now strive to bring positive changes by advocating, supporting and advising others on a range of areas, including attending court appearances, tenancy issues, child custody and domestic abuse.

I have achieved so much through St Giles – without their guidance, I wouldn’t be living the life I am now. I am motivated, have confidence and my children are healthy and thriving. My lived experience also provides crucial knowledge and skills to the team and support to clients. I am so proud of how far I’ve come.
