On Tuesday 1st October, the St Giles Cymru team were honoured to receive the award for Community-Based Social Enterprise at the Social Business Awards Wales – 2024 for the Colwyn Bay based social-supermarket; Y Pantri Cymru. Operating for over a year, the site has welcomed over 1000 visits from members of the local community.

Y Pantri / The Pantry is a unique model, offering more than just nutritious, affordable food. On-site staff and volunteers provide expert advice and support; many of whom have experienced the same issues facing the people they support today. For a weekly subscription of ÂŁ3.50, people using Y Pantri / The Pantry can choose from a range of fresh produce as they would in any other shop whilst receiving support to address the underlying factors trapping them in poverty.

This holistic approach stops their clients from falling through the gaps in services and helps to build foundations to support the whole person and create lasting impact.

Anne-Marie Rogan, Business Development Manager for St Giles Cymru said:

“St Giles Cymru is thrilled to work in partnership with Cais Social Enterprises / Adferiad, putting lived-experience and social enterprise values together to create our social supermarket – Y Pantri in Colwyn Bay, tackling food poverty within a wrap-a-round holistic approach. This is pure social value, making positive changes happen within our community. This is testament to our wonderful and dedicated team who make real changes happen every day. Thank you to Cwmpas / Social Business Wales for recognising St Giles and Cais Social Enterprises / Adferiad and to the Co-Op for sponsoring the award. Hopefully this will lead to more Pantri’s across Wales so we can support more communities who need us most.”

Mae hyn yn werth cymdeithasol pur, gan wneud i newidiadau cadarnhaol ddigwydd yn ein cymuned. Mae hyn yn dyst i’n tĂ®m gwych ac ymroddedig sy’n gwneud i newidiadau go iawn ddigwydd bob dydd. Diolch i Cwmpas/ Busnes Cymdeithasol Cymru am gydnabod St Giles a Cais Mentrau Cymdeithasol / Adferiad ac i’r Co-op am noddi’r wobr.
