Robert’s story
After a difficult start in life, Robert (name changed to protect confidentiality) came to St Giles for support in finding a job. Robert is very shy and neurodivergent. He had drifted through various jobs, never being taken seriously by his employers and lacking the confidence to stand up for himself. St Giles worked with Robert to help him identify his strengths and build his levels of confidence and self-belief. We worked with charity Suited & Booted, who provide young men with job interview clothing, to help Robert to cultivate a look which suited his personality and gave him added credibility. With continued support, Robert has been helped into his dream job and his employers are so impressed that they have extended his contract.
Russ Brummell, Senior Employment Caseworker at St Giles, had this to say when he recently spoke with Robert:
“Robert seemed amazingly positive and full of confidence when I saw him this week. He credits St Giles as the catalyst for turning his life around. We have dramatically changed the life of a young man who was frequently being written off.”
