Trusted adult mentoring

Lived experience mentoring support for young people identified as being at risk of violence and exploitation.

What it is

Mentors with lived experience support young people identified as being at risk of violence and exploitation. The mentors support each young person and their wider families if needed. This work has been shown to be effective: evidence from the Youth Endowment Fund shows mentoring reduces violence by 21%, offending by 14% and reoffending by 19%.

This work is delivered in a range of settings including schools and other educational settings, in the community meeting young people in their locations, custody suites and other situations depending on the needs of the young person.

Group sessions are delivered in schools to help reach larger numbers of children and young people. Schools can request tailored sessions to meet specific needs.

The work aims to keep young people diverted away from harm and exploitation and positively engaged with opportunities around education, skills and employment.  Our staff help young people think critically, assess their risk and increase their understanding of exploitation and violence, enabling them to stay resilient and make the right decisions.

We deliver this work in a number of locations across England and Wales.
