St Giles Celebrates Black History Month – Oct 2024

To celebrate Black History Month our BLAG employee resource group hosted a number of events.

We held a lunch and learn in collaboration with one of our partners, Berkeley Homes, to focus on the experiences of Black employees in the workplace. This was a candid, empowering discussion where colleagues shared their stories, challenges and how they wanted to reclaim narratives about themselves. This was held in-person in Camberwell, with many other colleagues joining online across the St Giles Network.

We hosted Black History Month lunches, where colleagues came together to share food, discuss and learn more about Black History Month.

We partnered with the NHS to run a blood drive, encouraging colleagues to learn their blood type and register to donate blood, raising awareness of conditions such as Sickle Cell and Thalassemia. BLAG recognised the need to encourage colleagues to donate blood as there are often few donations from Global Majority communities. We also made a series of resources to encourage self-directed learning available to colleagues.
