Many of us find ourselves unprepared when winter arrives — even though colder weather lasts for nearly half the year. St Giles are pleased to be partnering with Smar Energy. Research from Smart Energy GB shows that 52% of people are caught off guard by the change in seasons, and 32% only start preparing once it’s already cold.*
Simple steps can make a big difference. Book a boiler service in summer, bleed radiators regularly, and use rugs, curtains, or draught blockers to keep heat in.
You can also ask your energy supplier to install a smart meter if you don’t already have one. Smart meters send readings automatically, give accurate bills, and show real-time energy use — helping you spot waste and reduce costs. They’re installed at no extra cost, and users report saving an average of £176 a year.**
Working with Energy Saving Trust, Smart Energy GB also shares key tips to stay energy efficient:
- Turn your thermostat from 22°C to 21°C to save £90 a year
- Choose an A-rated fridge freezer instead of an E-rated one to save £360
- Wash at 30°C to save £12 a year
- Keep showers to 4 minutes to save £60 a year
- Switch halogen spotlights to LEDs to save £40 a year***
