Employability service available to Barnsley residents

Employability service available to Barnsley residents

An employability initiative is supporting residents in Barnsley as they take steps toward sustainable work and long-term stability.

We are currently delivering the Pathways to Work programme locally, offering targeted support for individuals aged 16 and over who face additional barriers to entering or maintaining employment. This includes people with experience of homelessness, refugees, military veterans, and those who have been involved in the criminal justice system.

The programme focuses on more than just securing a job. Its aim is to help participants build confidence, develop essential employability skills, and achieve lasting progress that reduces the likelihood of returning to crisis situations.

Participants receive tailored one-to-one support, including help with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation. Once employment is secured, ongoing in-work support is also provided to ensure a smooth transition and improve job retention.

We are now calling on local organisations, community partners across Barnsley to collaborate and refer individuals who may benefit from the service. By strengthening referral pathways and partnerships, the programme hopes to reach more people who are ready to move forward into employment.

Individuals and those working with them are encouraged to get in touch to learn more at Pathways@stgilestrust.org.uk

Pathways to Work is delivered by charity St Giles in partnership with South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
