Delia Smith CH CBE Visits St Giles’ Norwich Pantry

St Giles Trust were delighted to host, TV Host and Cooking Legend, Delia Smith at their Magdalen Street Pantry in Norwich on 18th January 2024, thanks to Nourishing Norfolk.

Nourishing Norfolk, part of the Norfolk Community Foundation helps part fund the St Giles’ Magdalen Street Pantry in Norwich, which provides food and support, empowering people in the local community.

The Pantry offers nutritious food, expert advice and support through their trained staff and volunteers; many of whom have experienced the same issues facing the people they support today. This unique model of support and food provision is operated by St Giles at seven Pantry sites across the country.

This holistic approach stops their clients falling through the gaps in services and helps to build foundations to support the whole person and create lasting impact.

Supporting over 100 households in the area since opening just over 12 months ago, a recent client impact survey showed that of those who had used The Pantry:

  • 100% felt ‘more connected to their community’
  • 91% said they are ‘eating more fruit and veg’
  • 83% said ‘their finances had improved since using The Pantry’
  • 78% said their ‘mental health had improved’

Delia, a powerhouse within the broadcasting and TV world has been a regular fixture on UK screens for over 50 years and has published over 20 cookery books. In 2017, she was appointed Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in the Birthday Honours for ‘services to cookery and cookery education in this country.’

“It was fantastic to get the opportunity to talk to Delia about our work at The Pantry over the last year and tell her about what we’re doing to support our local community, which she plays such an important role in. Thank you to Nourishing Norfolk for all their support and for organising this opportunity for us!”
