Work with people in Wales impacted by the justice system
St Giles plays a complementary role within the CRS system in Wales, strengthening probation-led rehabilitation through lived experience, relational support and system navigation for people with complex needs.
St Giles adds value by acting as a trusted bridge between statutory probation services and community-based support, helping people:
- Engage with services they may otherwise distrust
- Navigate fragmented systems (housing, benefits, health, employment)
- Maintain momentum beyond initial referral points
Our model supports engagement, retention and outcomes, particularly for individuals with histories of repeat offending or disengagement.
St Giles is distinctive within the CRS landscape for its systematic use of professionally trained staff with lived experience of the justice system, poverty, exploitation or addiction.
This approach:
- Increases engagement with people who may need extra support to engage with services
- Improves trust and compliance with probation requirements
- Supports sustained behaviour change rather than short-term compliance
Lived experience is not an add-on; it is integral to how we deliver effective rehabilitation.
St Giles delivers and complements CRS outcomes across key need areas, including:
- Finance, benefit and debt: improving financial resilience
- Personal wellbeing: trauma-informed, relational support
- Education, training and employment: pathways to skills, volunteering and work
We often work alongside CRS providers, adding depth and continuity for people with overlapping needs.
St Giles works closely with:
- Probation Cymru / HMPPS
- Local authorities
- Health boards
- Housing providers
- Voluntary and community sector partners
Our role is to join up provision around the individual, ensuring CRS interventions translate into positive change.
