Since embarking on Peer Advisor training, Chrissy is now excited about her future and able to begin a new chapter after a very difficult start in life.

Chrissy’s Story

People we’ve helped create a positive ripple and often inspire others they know to make similar changes.

This was the case with Chrissy who contacted us after seeing her friend complete her Peer Advisor training at our Camberwell office.  Chrissy had been through a traumatic past, experiencing abuse and depression which had led her to turn to drugs.  She was already starting to turn a corner with her recovery when she first met us but needed help to build her confidence, skills and self-belief.

Chrissy was particularly motivated by the fact that training as a Peer Advisor would mean she could help others overcome the experiences like her own.  To her delight, she successfully gained a place on the course and started her training.  As she became more familiar with St Giles, she said she would like to start volunteering for us as part of her vocational placement.  As is the case with all St Giles staff and volunteers, she was required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service clearance beforehand and this can take some time to come through.

Whilst we are waiting for this, she visits the office regularly and recently attended a conference with us where she shared her story.  Her confidence has grown tremendously, and she is extremely grateful for the support she has received.  Most importantly, she is now excited about her future and able to begin a new chapter after a very difficult start in life.
