HMP Wandsworth
HMP Wandsworth was the first prison that St Giles Trust established a service in, helping prevent homelessness amongst prisoners on release.
Our skilled, effective team work with the prison and its inmates to provide support on housing, education, training and employment.
Our Peer Advice Project grew out of our housing advice service we provided in the prison. It is still successfully running there to date, training serving prisoners to NVQ Level 3 in Information, Advice and Guidance to provide a housing advice service to their fellow inmates, whilst providing them with a recognised qualification they can use on release.
We also run our City and Guilds 7303 Teacher Training for Serving Prisoners in HMP Wandsworth, training serving prisoners to the standard required for anyone wishing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. This builds on the work already underway in many prisons, where inmates work as facilitators, gym instructors and peer teachers. This qualification enables them to use the qualification on release for employment or further training.
