Our work in HMP Chelmsford
We run a highly successful project working with prisoners with hidden disabilities as well as our award-winning Peer Advice Project.
Peer Advice Project at HMP Chelmsford - we are currently training serving prisoners to provide an information, advice and guidance service for their fellow inmates.
We also provide a mentoring project which works with prisoners with hidden disabilities such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and other learning disabilities. It builds on the work of a highly successful project provided by a volunteer at HMP Chelmsford who is now working for St Giles Trust. She trains serving prisoners to become mentors who work with other prisoners with hidden disabilities. Around 50% of prisoners have a hidden disability such as dyslexia or dyspraxia which can act as a real barrier to accessing education and employment upon release.
