Our commitment to the environment
We recognise that through our day-to-day activities we will have an impact upon the environment, and we aim to reduce these impacts by continually improving our environmental performance in such areas as waste minimisation and recycling, energy use, purchasing and procurement, and water usage.
In recent years St Giles Trust has recieved several accolades recognising a good standard of environmental practice; we are singatory to the Mayor's Green Procurement Code, winning a silver award 2 years running and we have also been certified by Greenmark. In 2010 St Giles Trust's case study came top in the voluntary section of the Mayor's Green Procurement Code awards.
We are committed to embedding a culture of ecological sustainability in everything we do.
In particular, we will:
- Comply with all relevant environmental legislation and ensure that all staff understand the legislation that affects them.
- Strive to achieve high environmental standards using best practicable means to continually improve performance.
- Develop a greater understanding of environmental issues among the workforce through employee training and awareness, and encourage a feeling of ownership of the Environmental Policy among staff.
- Establish suitable environmental objectives and targets, and strive to achieve these.
- Review this policy annually.
The ultimate responsibility for the company’s environmental performance lies with the Chief Executive; however day-to-day implementation of the policy is the responsibility of the Head of Central Services, who will be assisted by the Environmental Committee (Green Team).
Implementation of the policy requires the participation of all employees.
