New projects support young offenders and female prison leavers
28 June 2010
Three new projects are successfully underway at St Giles Trust supporting young offenders and women leaving prison.
Keep it Moving (KIM) and the Real Employment Project (REP) offer support to young women and men in London who are current or ex-offenders, helping them tackle any barriers which may be preventing them from achieving positive goals.
Both projects mainly help with education, training and employment, with support around issues such as housing and finances available if needed. Typically, clients are provided with one to one support around handling interviews, job searches, preparing a CV and disclosure issues.
Based in Kennington, south London, Keep it Moving works with young women aged between 15 and 19 and the Real Employment Project works with young men aged between 18 and 19. Both projects are funded through the London Development Agency.
The Women’s Information and Resettlement for Ex-offenders (WIRE) project offers wide ranging support for women prison leavers, who often have specific issues around housing, finances and caring for families. The project currently works with women returning to London.
