Aims of St Giles Trust
"I know of few more practical contributions to the solution of the ongoing problem and could not commend their work more highly."
Lord Ramsbotham, former HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, on the work of St Giles Trust.
Our aim is to reduce crime and social exclusion. We believe that the people we help can be part of the solution to the problems of crime and re-offending.
Our work harnesses the skills and experiences of prisoners and ex-offenders who provide services which break the cycle of offending - supporting people from social exclusion towards positive and productive futures.
Our peer-led services train our clients to become skilled professionals, able to provide services and support to others and use their first hand experience to transform their own lives and those of many others.
By supporting disadvantaged people to take control of their own lives and also support others who have been in their situation, we will break the cycle of offending and deliver effective peer led services which support people from social exclusion towards positive futures.
Our experience shows that many people we work with are trying to break free from crime but may lack the support and opportunities to make this possible. We see beyond the stereotypes and the labels that are applied to people and genuinely involve them in delivering our services. That is why 20% of our paid staff are ex-service users and 90% of our services are delivered with the help of clients.
